| was due to failed injectors. Count your blessings. Most people find their injector problem like you did. I happened to find mine while qualifying for the Pony Express 100 in Nevada. When injectors fail under normal conditions, no big deal. You get rough idle / miss. When they go begin to fail and GO LEAN at 145+mph, the detonation and heat quickly causes much bigger problems. I lost cylinders 1 & 5 completely. Believe it or not, I drove to Reno, had my injectors, plugs, Fuel Pressure regulator, and filter replaced (getting there on 4 cylinders) and made it back for the race. I will say the Z cars are otherwise excellent cars. The detonation completey burnt the plugs in cylinders 1 & 5. Nothing was left except the threads. The heat also burnt the valves. Compression on those 2 cylinders was around 80psi. Even with 2 cylinders bad, I managed to get 2nd place in the 135 mph class. I dropped from the 145 class thinking it wise considering the situation. Coincidently, the whole race was a balancing act between keeping the target speed and not overheating the car. It was only stage 3. No bigger intercooler or radiator. I drove the Z all the way back to KY and 3 months later, rebuilt the engine. I have the NISMO 555s know (since '98). So far they have had no problems.
